As reported in Bulletin 6 posted on this site, the future of Maple Leaf Gardens seems to have been concluded: it will cease having any presence as a place to play hockey, and will be converted to a large grocery store operated by Loblaws. Attempts by Friends of Maple Leaf Gardens to ensure an ice rink was incorporated with a grocery store have not met with success. Interior demolition of the Gardens is expected to begin in Fall 2004.
Accordingly, as of mid-September, 2004, the Friends have generally become inactive – we can’t see what we can do that will change the situation.
If you wish to express your opinion on this matter to Toronto Mayor David Miller, his email address is firstname.lastname@example.org , telephone 416-397-2489. The postal address is: Mayor’s Office, Toronto City Hall, 2nd Floor, 100 Queen St. West, Toronto, Ontario M5H 2N2
If you want to write to senior figures at Loblaws, go to the home page of the company, and under the tab `About Us’ you can find a list of directors.
s The president of Loblaws is John Lederer. The address is 22 St. Clair Avenue East, Toronto, M4T 2S7, telephone 416 922 2500. No email address seems available.
Thanks for your interest in the Gardens.
